Medieval Ruins
Your very own church ruins! Is that possible? Yes, it’s nearly true. If you’re in Visby anyway. All of the ruins in Visby are owned by the State and we, in turn, rent St. Clemens stately 13th century ruins. Wall-to-wall with the hotel, they act as an impressive extension of our gardens. Truly magnificent!
The gate facing our garden is open all year-round, so our guests are welcome to go in and enjoy the atmosphere whenever they wish. People often say that Visby is a magical place and in here, under the stone vaulting, you can really understand why. Between May and September, we also keep the gate to the Botanical Gardens open during the day so that the general public can visit our beautiful living room. Speaking of magical. A pastor named Astrid lives next door to the hotel. In recent years now and then there have been couples from China who wished to have a marriage ceremony in a special place far from home. Several times Astrid has performed the ceremonies for these couples in St. Clemens. A year after one of these ceremonies Astrid received a letter telling that the couple had been blessed once more. This time with a daughter who they had named Astrid.
