17th-Century Cellar
A Step Down Into History
One floor down, we have created a completely unique experience. In the 17th-century house above, we discovered paintings made in the 1750s by the town painter Lasse Sahlin during a renovation. Down here in the basement, which likely dates back to the medieval period, the artist Pierre Tietjens has hand-decorated the entire room based on Sahlin’s paintings. The herringbone parquet and the spacious bathroom with an infrared sauna tie everything together for a comfortable and luxurious experience. Despite the absence of windows, smart lighting creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. Down here, it is also quiet and cool, right in the heart of Visby’s inner city! The room is an exclusive gem where history is both in and on the walls.
